Founded in 1921 as University College of Leicestershire and Rutland, the University of Leicester gained university status in 1957. The land on which the university's main campus now stands was donated by local textile factory owner Thomas Fielding Johnson, who stated that his intention was to make the institution a living memorial to the British soldiers and dead of World War I.
According to the Times Higher Education World Ranking 2025, which evaluates universities based on 18 criteria including teaching, research, industry income, and international visibility, the University of Leicester is ranked 191st, while in the QS World Ranking 2025, which takes into account academic reputation, employer opinions, and international student ratios, it is ranked 285th.
In addition, according to UK-wide rankings, THE (Times Higher Education) places the University of Leicester at 25th, while QS places it at 34th. The University of Leicester has also been named "University of the Year" by the Daily Mail for 2025. Sir Alec John Jeffreys, CH FRS MAE, is a British geneticist known for developing genetic fingerprinting and DNA profiling techniques, which are now used worldwide in forensic science to aid police detective work and resolve paternity and immigration disputes.

Atifete Jahjaga was a Kosovar Albanian politician who served as the third president of Kosovo. She was Kosovo's first female president, the first non-partisan candidate to hold the office, and the youngest woman ever elected as head of state.

William James Sibree Tudor is an English actor best known for his role as Olyvar in the HBO series Game of Thrones from 2013 to 2015. He has also appeared in the miniseries The Red Tent and the Channel 4 series Humans.

CAS Letter
Universities send acceptance letters called CAS (Course of Availability) to students for use in the visa application process. You can request your CAS letter from the school through your EDUKAS consultant.
Bank account statement
The school and accommodation fees must be deposited in your current account or your sponsor's current account at your bank for 28 consecutive days prior to your visa interview appointment. (Accommodation costs in London are £12,006, and outside London £9,207, as determined by the visa department.) You can find out the exact amount from your consultant when it's time for the visa process.
Passport
You will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months.
Identity register copy
If your mother or father will be financially sponsoring you for your education, you can easily obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate through the e-government system to prove their relationship.

Consent form for students under 18 years of age
Students under the age of 18 who are about to begin their education in England can obtain this document, confirming their parental permission, with the assistance of a notary.
Sponsorship Letter
If the student's education and living expenses are covered by the parents, a petition proving this must be provided, or if the student receives a scholarship from an institution (such as YLSY), a document from the institution proving this must be obtained.
